Black magic, pseudo science, sorcery, witchcraft, wizardry

The Burning of unusual substances in ones engine may be frowned upon, you may face blank stares of disbelief, denial, be struck off, outcast from society and sent away into the nether regions of far away places to rethink your strategy.
But surely not in drag racing where unusual fuels are widespread, at least amongst the car classes?
ummmm .... yep

I'm having real difficulty in finding information and parts to run my bike off Methanol.
For example, Lectron carbs - on their website it says they offer Alcohol versions. But trying to get hold of a some set up for methanol has proved fruitless so far. Even the main distributor, Fast by Gast don't seem to have any available.
I have spoken to a few people who have converted streetbike motors to run methanol in grasstrack racing and they say i should be ok just increasing the main jets. So this will probably be my starting point, the rule of thumb seems to be use jets 2.2 times larger than the petrol ones. Thats not 2.2 times the jet size but times the surface area of the jet. So my 122.5 main will need to be upped to approx 184.

There is another possibility and thats a fuel that is currently on sale to the public known as E85 or bio-ethanol. This is quite similar to methanol but not quite the same octane. To me alky seems the obvious choice of fuel. It has a very high octane rating, can be bought for absolute peanuts, and is the perfect companion for nitrous oxide.

Since the last post I've been buying things on eBay i cannot afford, namely a Schnitz progressive nitrous controller (PNC-101)
also i got started on wiring the bike but ran out of connectors!
A washing machine door switch has taken on a new role and become a wide open throttle switch and has been bolted to the carbs.

I ended up making my own gear lever too, and a good job i did as whilst examining the old one it broke in two!
So with that done i've refitted the airshifter.

My application for an ACU licence has been sent away now. It has to be countersigned by an official ACU club first so, very kindly the Northwest marshalls (who run Hoghton tower sprint) have offered to sign it and forward it to the ACU for a very insignificant £2 membership fee.
