Are you sitting comfortably

This weeks session is on home ergonomics.....
Having both bikes together at the last event highlighted just how uncomfortable the newer bike is to sit on compared to the old one. The seat height is identical on both bikes but because you can't sit flat on the seat of the new one (or at least my fat ass can't) your actually positioned quite a bit higher.
It's been on the agenda for a while to modify the bodywork, but this has provided the motivation. Plus, working with glass fiber is never one of those jobs you look forward to, it's just horrid. But i took a marker pen to the shell and marked up where to cut and with a large saw i chopped most of the second step of the seat out.
The next bit is to reshape it by laying filler over a polystyrene former, and then remove the styrene and reenforce it with glass and epoxy resin on the back.
Because the seat pushed me so far forward i was never able to tuck in behind the screen either, i just didn't fit, so maybe i'll even get down behind the screen and go a little faster.

Other happenings since the extreme bike weekend - the engine has been stripped, looks like a couple of valve seats have moved so a small job to be done there recutting them, but other than that all seems well motor wise. I've also been looking for the cause of all the electrical cutout problems experienced at the last race, and I'm pointing a finger at the battery as a likely cause at the moment. Largely because pretty much everything other than the wires themselves have been replaced. The racing batteries ain't cheap either so i'll not waste my money on another one, either a cheap AGM battery will do or i'll change to 14.4v drill batteries.
I've also picked up another GSX engine fairly cheaply, and just down the road from me too. I'll have to get rid of  bits i don't need on ebay as i'm running out of room. All i need are the cases, crank and clutch plates.
A few other bits being changed too, but more on that and some pictures next time.
Alan Davis - Comp Bike

Comp bike racer Nick Milburn bought Rene van den burg's Top Fuel bike at the last event, and here he is 'in at the deep end' doing some licensing runs on it.
