Fuel Consumption

Not a lot has been happening recently but the new carbs are now fitted and plumbed in. I used some 40mm ID radiator hose cut to 40mm lengths to mount the carbs, and courtesy of my Dad and Lancaster Parcels, it was paid for too! The hose fits very neatly and places the carbs perfectly, allowing all the fuel pipes to be connected and allowing them fit snugly beneath the dummy fuel tank.

The good news is Ive have had it running with them on, albeit in a pretty rich state.
With the Metering rod set at 51.5mm It fired up straight away and even ticked over with very little adjustment, it also responded to throttle pretty good too, and particularly once warm i could crack the throttle open without any problems. However it was producing clouds of black smoke.

I made some adjustments and started it a few times but there was very little difference and the original setting was probably the best so I'll be starting from there when i go to the test and tune day at the Summer Nationals (which is less than 2 weeks away). I'll just give it a run and check the plug colour, according to a few helpful folks I've spoken too it seems they can't be far off right if it runs and ticks over, and the smoke will probably disappear once on the dragstrip.

One thing that really caught my attention was the way it now drinks fuel. On the Mikuni's it would run on the fuel in the float bowls for several minutes, but with the trons your looking at a few seconds and you can see them emptying rapidly due to the clear float bowls.
I reckon they would have needed the fuel pump so I'm glad it's been refitted.

One final problem I've had is my Oxford fancy pants battery charger maintenance thing has packed up. And respect goes out to oxford, they haven't been in the slightest bit interested in fixing it or replacing it, despite their claim of a 2 year guarantee and it being a little over 1 year old. That's what you get when you don't send the warranty card back! at £60 it's not something i can afford to replace right now.
