The Main Event

It's been a while since we've been to Santa Pod as spectators, but this weekend we made a last minute decision to go and watch the last 2 days of the opening European race of the year - the Main Event.
We set off at 5am so the motorway was dead and after dropping the Dogs off part way at Sam's mums we arrived at the Pod about 9am. Just in time to take a quick wonder round and then Pro Classes qualifying began.
There are only 3 class of bikes racing at the UEM/FIA events - Pro Stock Bike, Supertwins and Top Fuel. The supertwins are my favorite to watch just because they make such an awesome noise. Ber Bengtssons 'The Beast' being the very pinnacle of awesomeness.
Fellow Comp bike racer Bob brooks was entered in Top Fuel on his Yellow Metal machine, and was anther bike i was keen to see run. You don't really get to see the other bike race when your racing yourself so it was going to be a good opportunity.

The weather was great and conditions were good for racing. Records were broken for top speed and ET in many categories, Top Methanol Dragster in particular saw records broken nearly every single pass. Before this weekend there had never been a 5.3 second run in Europe, but we saw probably half a dozen 5.3's in one day, and Dave Wilson very nearly made it into the 5.2's.

Sam took a lot of pictures which she's trimmed down a bit and added them to her Photobucket page which can be viewed HERE

This shot shows all the good things about fuel cars ... good flames, wrinkly tyre and the blackness they call clutch dust, but which we all know is the essence of pure evil leaking out.
