In the grand scheme of things the Springspeed nationals was the most successful event so far for the bopchop team. The bike ran a new best time and speed nearly every run with 5 runs being made overall.

There were a total of 6 rounds of qualifying, 4 of which we made. The best time at that point was an 8.541 which meant we were qualified 6th overall.
The qualifying ladder looked like this:
1st & 8th qualifiers - Ivan Birch vs Bob Brooks
2nd & 7th qualifiers - Stuart Crane vs Dave Peters
3rd & 6th qualifiers - Dave Buttery vs Phil Crossley
4th & 5th qualifiers - Nick Daniels vs Phil Leamon
Dave was lulling me into thinking i might have a chance when he was telling he has trouble getting the bikes turbo to spool up. He whupped me completely of course!
However... it was the best ever run at 8.526 @156.84mph!
Of the 8 comp bike qualified however only 3 made it to the end of the track in that first round and myself an Dave Buttery were the only pair.
Bob Brooks had trouble with a seized bearing and didn't make it to the line so Ivan just rolled into stage and broke the beam for the win.
Not sure what happened with Dave and Stu, i was told that Dave's bike cut out after the burnout and he restarted but it happened again. I believe Stu went for a solo run but the bike may have cut out soon after.
And in the last pair, Phil took and exceedingly lucky win after his nitrous failed to come on but it didn't matter as his opponent had failed to turn up!
After that round the Comp bike class decided unanimously that they were going to call it quits at that point. The racing was constantly interrupted by small spells of rain and it was late afternoon already. Everyone was tired and cold so we headed home.
