Theres not really a great deal to report from the last week, so I'll attempt to create something from nothing!
The Mini bopchop has come alive once again. The C70 engine i bought off eBay for the measly sum of £26 seems to run very well. It's far from finished, the exhaust isn't complete yet and the footpegs need modifying, but the bit that needs sorting the most is the throttle cable, the current one Ive pinched from my XL185 and the inner is a tad too short meaning the throttles open slightly all the time. I didn't realize this till i tried bump starting it (it doesn't have a kick start yet) on the street and it fired up and tried to shoot off on it's own. I had to run with it round in circles until i could leap on it and pull the brakes on.
So it's looking good for the original bopchop, and it's new career as a tow bike/pit toy.
New bracketry to hold the nitrous controller has been fabricated ( sawn, drilled, filed, polished), it will now sit upfront in the headlight shell. It should have a much easier life up there, especially where vibration is concerned. The decision has been made to go for the Schnitz PNC-3000, i just need to sort out a paypal payment with Nick at Schnitz Motorsport and it'll be on it's way.
Rewiring is also underway, there was just a single fuse at the battery before, but it's being replaced with a 6 way fuse box which should mean if something shorts out it won't kill the whole bike, and it may still make it down the dragstrip.
Before the next race i need to stock up on spares. The starter motor is bound to fail sooner or later .... it just has that feeling about it, so a spare one is needed just in case. A spare starter cart battery would also be a good idea..... ever since i went round a corner too fast and the cart fell over, one of the batteries has been growing crystals on the terminal..... so it's not very well, despite holding a charge and having decent voltage.
A visit to the scrapyard is in order i feel.
And last but not least..... i found this picture a while ago. Taken at the Summer nationals by Sue Whyte of Photoparazzi.com her website features some great shots from around the pits. This pic caught my eye because of the obvious lack of smiles on anyones face. It's the joys of waiting to run on a hot day.
