The Summer Nationals don't seem so far away anymore. In 2 weeks time I'll be ready to head down to Santa Pod for Fridays test and tune day. These pre-event test days have limited entries to ensure lots of track time, plus the surface should be properly prepped (sprayed with special glue and rubber strips dragged along it). The glue is what makes the track look wet on photographs, prompting people to assume theres drag racing in the wet. My entry for the extra day has been sent off, it adds a further £50 to the cost of the weekend but i couldn't care less, i just want the chance to ride it.
Version 7 of the Summer Nationals entry list has been posted. Thankfully the number of entries has increased significantly. There are now 8 entries for comp bike. All but one of which i'm familiar with.
1 Philip Leamon Suzuki GSXR Leamon Bros Vehvac Special 1290cc
4 Alan Young Suzuki Hayabusa 1300cc
5 Sandra Chaplain Buff Kukuxumusu Team Think Pink 1327cc
6 Nick Holland Kawasaki Flying Dutchman 1075cc
9 Stuart Crane Suzuki GSX Warpspeed Racing 1428cc
16 Phil Crossley Suzuki GSX The Bop Chop 1260cc
18 Ivan Birch Suzuki GSXR Ignorance With Conviction III 1570cc
23 Alexander Rose Suzuki Hayabusa 1300cc
The full entry list can be seen HERE
The ACU points standings have now been updated since the springspeed festival. I have been in touch with the organizer to try to get an updated version and it has been posted HERE
I appear to be 6th .... and if you only count people who attended both events then i'm last!
It's a good job theres no more races after this one until the very end of August as i need to stop spending money. I've just bought a new Mickey Thompson tyre which i will collect at the summer nationals. Not sure if it will need fitting at that event, hopefully the current one will last this next round. But if not I'll have to find someone who can fit the new one.
And i've bought an MSD 3 stage ignition retard module off eBay US, it was only £35 inc postage, and it's the right module to use with my old MC1 ignition. It also comes with a great big tray full of retard modules, which is handy as they ain't cheap.
I'm struggling to find instructions for it but hopefully it will be obvious how to wire it up. Basically what it does is retard the ignition timing when it's activated. By how much is dictated by the chips (or pills) that are fitted. When the nitrous comes on an output on the nitrous controller can trigger the retard unit and take out roughly 6 degrees. The device can also trigger a further 2 stages if required.
If it arrives before the next event I'll take it with me and maybe wire it in whilst I'm there.
I've nearly sorted my nitrous bottle refilling escapade too .... i have a price for a hose to connect the bottles together (£30) and i have emptied and weighed my small bottle. Stuart is going to get it refilled for me at the weekend so i can have some fun at the test and tune day.
I must remember to take some scales along in my tool kit though so i can check how much is remaining after each run.
