I had all but given up on the larger starter motor i bought, it still could not turn the engine over. I had tried several times after having one or the other batteries on charge for a few hours. But tonight i had both batteries on for one hour each and linked them up using copper wire rather than an m8 threaded bolt i had used before..... and bingo! i had it spinning away nicely. Only the once though, then it didn't have enough ummph to do it again.
So i'm pretty sure now that the problem lies with my batteries, they did come from the scrapyard and are largely unknown. So it looks like i may have to buy some brand new ones and a fancy top up charger so i can leave them charging permanently.
I've pretty much finished scrap heap challenging a starter cart too, made from old steel table legs, sack truck wheels and scrap computer cases! It just needs a coat of paint to hide my .... errmm... lovely welds, and it's done.

Since before i bought the bike back in august i've been trying to find out about it's history. I mentioned in the first post on here that it was once Chris Hannams but i knew nothing else. A few days ago i received an email from Andy Dawson over in the US, he came across my blog and realized the bike he was reading about used to be his. Andy has been able to fill me in on all the bikes history, it was built by one Pete Jones who did very well with it, running it in the Ultimate streetbike class. Andy ran a turbocharged GSX1260 motor in it, and last ran it at elvington several years ago, running a 8.8sec 174mph 1/4 mile.

Other snippets of progress this week include, getting a new chain, this is a chain designed just for drag racing. The MS620 is a non oring chain with humongous sideplates, rated up to 400bhp.
The Progressive controller has been wired in, i'll leave the final loom making till i'm sure i'm happy with the layout, but for now theres wires everywhere but at least it all works nicely.
I've now got my ACU racing license, it's a clubman license until i can upgrade it to a national. To do this you have to run a few events and have the license signed by an official at each event. The actual details of what this involves and whether it will restrict what i can enter are yet to be decided as the ACU is changing the rules as i type! hopefully it will be ok and i can push ahead with my master plan to take over the world, and if that fails then at least be ready to enter the Easter Thunderball at santapod in March.
