A new year and a new racing season lies ahead! It'll be interesting to see how many Comp bikes enter the various rounds this year, as last year was down on entries compared to previous years.
I know there are a few people building new bikes, and others who are looking for riders, so we will have to wait and see.
Easter, and the start of the ACU season is fairly late this year (22-25th of April), but that's good as it gives the weather time to warm up a little more, and it's extra build time for bike building folks.
Recent ventures into the cellar have been spent modifying the front subframe to accommodate the MC4, it will live in the front fairing in the same spot the headlights would be on a road bike. It's been tricky getting it right as there's only a few mm in any direction to spare, but after several tacked up attempts it seems to be right. I've also been making brackets for the MSD coils as they have different mounts to the Dyna coils that were on it.
Having thoroughly abandoned the plan to not touch the bike over the winter, its now gone to the other extreme and it looks like I'll be changing quite a lot over the next few months. I've certainly spent more than i should and there's still a lot to do!
The agenda looks like this:
Star racing head needs rebuilding/inspecting closely
Set of heavy duty studs & a rocket cover gasket for the head needs purchasing.
Revised mounting method for nitrous foggers as this head doesn't have space on the inlet runners for them.
Head will need fitting, cams dialling in, piston to valve clearance checked etc etc
I need to gear the bike up further so i've been getting quotes and hunting round for a bigger front sprocket as i don't want to make the back one any smaller.
Bigger sprocket will likely require a longer chain too
MC4 still needs wiring in and some of the brackets to hold the bits need making.
I'd like to change the battery for a fresh one as it's done 3 seasons now. I'm considering either an odyssey or one of the new nano phosphate bike batteries that are becoming available, as they are very lightweight.
The standard Suzuki clutch basket has had it's day too, they are prone to giving up and shattering, so a billet replacement is in the pipeline to replace it.
