Nearly 3 weeks since the last update so this is a little overdue. The bike is currently undergoing a series of refinements, money is a big issue however after the hideous overspend getting the bike ready for the last meeting, and that was with financial assistance from my newly acquired sponsor - aka my mum, who gave me money towards the wheely bars. As it happens I'm really pleased with the bars Stuart Crane made for me, they are super lightweight,a clever design and well made. Hope my mum likes em too as they are half hers!
I've stripped the carbs down and had the nitrous system in bits, trying to find reasons for the running problems we experienced at the last round. I found a couple of problems but I'm not sure if they were substantial enough to cause the issues. Both really point back to the fact that the fuel tank - which is built into the frame had never had any fuel flow through it before, and there was bound to be some crud in there that came loose. There is of course fuel filters on the nitrous side but none to the carbs. I found a big chunk of rubber blocking the float needle in one carb and despite the filter i found a blocked nitrous jet.
Other mods include a proper mount for the chain guard, and it's all been polished too so looks rather blingy now. And I've made a holster of sorts for the bottom of the nitrous bottle so it's held more securely. I could do with a 12-18"long nitrous hose now the bottle is inside the frame as the old hose is way to long and has to be coiled up a couple of times. I'll keep looking on eBay.
The polishing has extended the back wheel spacers, which have now also been drilled to death to lighten them somewhat, and i made up one new spacer to allow the brake caliper mounting some freedom to rotate when adjusting the chain tension.
One part i can't afford to change just yet but will be done in the next week or two is the back tyre. I was given the current one as it had started 'chunking' slightly (the rubber was coming away in small chunks or blisters), it's done 7 more passes now on my bike and has got quite a lot worse so it's gotta go. I've been looking at the options and it looks like the car version of the Mickey Thompson tyre is cheaper to buy, lasts longer, and is preferred by some racers. It is 3lb heavier but that's the one I'm pretty sure I'll go for.
Wiring is next on the agenda, i have a plan to stop the nitrous explosions blowing the exhaust headers off all the time, I'll be wiring in one or two new relays when i create a fresh wiring harness hopefully in the next couple of weeks. If killing the fuel and nitrous with a relay doesn't work, I've welded the headers to the collector just in case.
