I couldn't resist starting the bike when i got it out of the cellar, not sure why as there would be nothing i could do about it if there was something wrong. Anyway, it started straight away as usual and sounded spot on, a little adjustment of tickover, some oil circulation checks and it was ready to load up.
The first day was called off with regular downpours spoiling the action, the rest of the weekend was intermittently spoiled by the weather too, plus it was real cold. On the Saturday we got one qualifying run, i wanted to give the new engine parts a chance to bed in and intended to do a no nitrous run, however on the startline i changed my mind and flicked the nitrous on. Strangely though it didn't come on, at least the bike pulled pretty cleanly and every gear selected perfectly. The time was a rather poor 10 something, much slower than i was expecting, although it did wheelspin a little off the line and i had to back off slightly. The next 2 qualifying rounds on the Sunday were exactly the same with the nitrous just not coming on. In the pits there was no problem at all and it activated every single time. It was a bit of a mystery. The 3rd run was also spoiled when an air shifter hose popped out and i lost all air pressure leaving me stuck in 3rd gear.
On the Sunday evening I'd stripped the solenoids, changed every switch, checked every connection and found nothing wrong whatsoever, so i very much doubted the nitrous would come on, however in the first round against Dave Peters, it did actually work and it managed a half decent 8.5 second pass. Nowhere near enough to see off Dave who went 7.6 but it was a buzz to ride once again.
And that was that - we headed off home.
