In the back of my mind resides a little nugget of a chance that the new bike could be ready in time for the Easter thunderball in less than 3 weeks time. Sat next to it is a slightly larger nugget of chance that any bike will be ready in time for the Easter thunderball in less than 3 weeks time. For either to happen there is a list as long as a really long thing, of things to do and buy.
For starters i don't have an engine ready, half of it is still over in Leeds at Roger Uppertons and some other much needed parts, namely a top end oiler kit and offset sprocket are a couple of thousand miles away in Florida USA.
The most likely scenario is that i wont have the parts in time so will have to go over to Leeds to collect the other half of my engine and spend a couple of nights reassembling it just the way it was last year. Then spend a further couple of nights putting it back in the old bike, giving it a clean up and checking everything is OK.
For the new bike to be ready involves all of the above plus completely building the bike, the frame for which isn't even finished, never mind painted or anything else. It will then need brackets making to mount everything, a sprocket support plate and bearing holder making, chain ordering, chainguard making, completely wiring from scratch, the bodywork filled repaired, sanded and painted, mounting points fabricating, and a set of wheely bars making for it.
Some of the above are in progress anyway, such as the sprocket support, and the bodywork has been partly filled and sanded.
The entry list for the first event of 2010 currently stands at 7, there may well be late entries but the fee will double so i don't expect many. Notable absentees from last year are Bob Brooks who I'm guessing doesn't have his bike ready in time as he was making some major changes to it over the off season, and Nick Daniels.
