Easter is now looming somewhere very close indeed, so the weekend turned into a crack mission to throw the engine back together and get it back in the frame. Thanks (again) to Roger Upperton for calling me Saturday morning and reminding me to block the oilways in the cylinder head, he had mentioned doing this before but i had totally forgotten. So i set about tapping the holes and fitting grub screws in there. Then there was a dry build to check that nothing was hitting or close to hitting anything else. Everything checked out so it went together properly this time, the cams turned out to need a little tweaking as they were a couple of degrees out. It always seems to take me hours to degree cams, i don't know what the secret is but I seem to get different results every time it's done, so I counteract this by doing it a lot.
The nearly completed engine is now back in the frame and this evening i finished off plumbing the carbs up, checking the ignition timing, filled it with oil and refitted the exhaust. Then i went round and round it looking for disconnected stuff, loose stuff, rags in the intake ports, backward facing nitrous nozzles, things i may have partially removed or borrowed for the new bike and not put it back properly, etc etc.
There was even time for some sticker removal (I'm CB7 this year so the 6 has to go) and i made up some convincingly rubbish 7's out of insulation tape.
Tomorrow i should have the top end oiler which is the last part that needs fitting and I'll gather all the tools and stuff required for the weekend. We are travelling down to Santa Pod on Thursday afternoon, I'll have the usual Crew of Sam, Stuart and James.
