Next up

After not a great deal of investigation, the small shrapnel offering has been identified and it's not going to be necessary to strip the engine to fix it. It's a tab off a washer in the gearbox and there are still 2 remaining so it can wait till next time it's apart.

While the engine was out i fixed one of the long term problems we've had with the bike dropping into gear on it's own. Once when this happened on the tow back through the pits, it locked the box up hard and we had to hammer out one very bend shift shaft. I've added a short spring which should eliminate the problem once and for all.

Another interesting discovery whilst refitting the clutch was that 4 of the steels had warped pretty bad, probably as they got rather hot, slipping like mad in the oil soaked basket, before we discovered it had to have its oil supply stopped. Warped steels will require a lot of pressure to lock up as they need to be squashed flat before they work. I've changed these for some better ones and reset the air gap to give the right clearance. I'm also in the process of making some tiny brass weights to use on the slider arms, these will give us an easy to change selection of clutch setup options.

And finally, the next race - the Springspeed Nationals are only one week away. There's no entry list available as yet but post it once it's available.
