I'm so glad i didn't go to Shakespeare county raceway at the weekend. Apparently there was a fair amount of racing but there was a fair amount of snow too. 2 meetings in a row with snow might have been a bit much.
There is an event there on the 19th and 20th April, they are both RWYB days but are also a round for ACU junior dragbike, and supertwins i believe. I want to go that weekend as there will be an ACU clerk there and so i should be able to finish my license off. It's also 2 weeks before the next proper event and should mean i have some more practice runs to get the bike set up and running well.
What i'm hoping for is to get a set of times that are consistent. Firstly, a set of similar times for runs without the Nitrous, what i would like to see is a 9 second no gas run. That would be great. Then i can move on from there. I can't move on far as i don't have any other nitrous jets to try, but by then i'm hoping i can afford to buy some!
I've been reading a bit about how to refill nitrous bottles. It's likely i'll only get 3 runs out of the bottle so i'll either need someone who can refill it at the track or i need a larger bottle to decant from. This is the best option as it works out cheaper in the long run. The expense of bottle rental and buying such a large amount means i can't do that just yet. But i'm looking for the cheapest ways to do it.
Getting a big bottle from Linde gas seems to be the best option so far. I'll need the right hose and fittings to connect the two together and a set of accurate scales to weigh my bottle on whilst filling it.
But otherwise it's straightforward. If your big bottle is without a siphon tube you have to invert it somehow. The small bottle needs to be as cold as possible before connecting the bottles together(keep it in the freezer). Then you open the valve of the small bottle with the fitting on the large bottle cracked slightly open. Then tighten it up and open the valve on the big bottle too. When the empty bottle weighs 2.5lbs more it is full (well not full but to the correct capacity). And thats all there is to it. .... i think!
