I've not had chance to do much this week but i've been buying all sorts of little bits and pieces that i need. Things like super hard to find narrow jubilee clips for the manifold rubbers - when i ran the bike last week it seemed to run very well other than: when the throttle was closed the revs didn't drop immediately, and it took a moment to return to tickover. I'm pretty sure this is a symptom of an air leak. And it would tally with some of the manifold clamps being at their maximum adjustment and still a bit loose. So hopefully this is cured. I bought some dzus fasteners for the bodywork, these are also quite hard to get hold of and come in a multitude of lengths, i had to guess but they all fit ok.
The ACU rules state that if you have a non standard mudguard then you must have a fork brace. So i found a really grotty (and cheap) one on eBay. the sizes are spot on for my forks - which as it happens i have no idea what they are off so i bought the brace by measurement alone. I spent a couple of hours today just cleaning it up, and it's far from finished.
I also got new front and rear master cylinders off ebay, they both work perfectly so now i have brakes!
On the agenda for the coming weeks:
The carbs will need balancing, i've ordered a set of Morgan Carbtune Vacuum Gauges for this task.
I need some aluminum welding done on the fuel tank, it needs proper bracketry for mounting it and it has a very slight leak ... somewhere...
I want to take it to a rolling road (or Dyno/dynamometer) to set it up properly & check the air fuel ratio is optimised. Plus it will tell me how much power and torque it's producing and give me a good benchmark. Once i have it set up ok i will try and set it up for methanol too so i can compare the differences.
There are 2 Dyno's near me so i'm spoilt for choice. I will need a bag of main and pilot jets before i go though or i'll not be able to change anything.
Also ... i now own a full set off leathers and boots, something i've never owned in 26 years of biking. They are stupid and have sad sack knees!
