The Cure

Run 1 - ran straight
Run 2 - ran straight
Run 3 - ran straight
Run 4 - ran straight
Run 5 - ran straight
The whole reason for going the the RWYB at Shakespeare county raceway this weekend was to get the bike to run consistently straight. You could interpret the above analysis as a very good outcome then? However, all it did was run straight, so in  a way we learned nothing, as what was it that made it run so well?
Who knows? - If i were to hazard a guess i'd say the fix is in meticulous setting of wheel alignment as that's the only thing i've changed.

So, all in all a pretty good weekend, the weather was perfect - if a little hot today at times, but we didn't need the gazebo up which made setting and packing up much much easier, and the track was pretty good too - just a bit too greasy in the heat of the sun. We nearly didn't run at all as we discovered upon firing the bike for the first time that the head gasket was leaking slightly. Chances are that it's a power ring not seated properly or a bit bent, but after a couple of runs it seemed to leak less, not at all what we expected. It ran a couple of 8.0's and the last run today a 7.88. MPH is still way down, which is very odd. I suspect there is still  something wrong after it ate it's own epoxy at the last meeting and I've
not spotted it, and i bet a leakdown test would probably reveal something

I've often chatted to folk who run competition type bikes who don't enter proper race meetings and only do test days, and they always claim it's too expensive to race and you can get more runs for your money at a RWYB. However, i beg to differ from now on. The queues were quite long and it's unlikely you would get many more runs in. Plus if you add the cost of a 2 day RWYB + entry fee for rider and 3 crew it works out just as expensive, in fact if you count the fact a race meeting is over 3 days then it's actually more expensive. Plus you at least have a chance of coming away with prize money at a race meeting. So for all you RWYB folks out there - it's a false economy, get racing!
